Atlantic Chapter Supports Trade and NAFTA discussions with the Wilson Center at Halifax Energy Dinner
When: Tuesday, April 24, 2018 - 17:30 - Tuesday, April 24, 2018 - 20:00

The Atlantic Chapter is pleased to support Global Affairs, Women Influencers – An Evening in Conversation between: Laura Dawson, Director of the Canada Institute at the Wilson Center, Washington, DC and Karen Oldfield, President and CEO, Halifax Port Authority.

The future of trade in the Maritimes and Canada is going to change – NAFTA re-negotiation, new opportunities with CETA/TPP and recent developments pointing to a trade war between the US and China will all have an economic impact on Canadian export and import markets.

On Tuesday, April 24th, The Maritimes Energy Association will host Laura Dawson, Director of the Canada Institute at the Wilson Center in Washington, DC. This conversational style evening between Laura and Karen Oldfield, President and CEO, Halifax Port Authority, will help you to understand the complexity of changing US trade policy, how the NAFTA re-negotiation will likely play out, the importance of diversifying to new markets in challenging times and how it will all impact our economy in the Maritimes. Laura Dawson knows a thing or two about international trade issues. She is the Director of the Wilson Center’s Canada Institute and has served as a Senior Advisor on Economic Affairs at the United States Embassy in Ottawa. She is a speaker, writer, and thought leader on international trade policy and is one of Canada’s Top 100 foreign policy influencers. She appears as a frequent guest on CBC's Power & Politics and The National.

For more than 15 years, Karen Oldfield has led the Halifax Port Authority through a dynamic diversification strategy that has tripled its revenue and transformed it into a regional economic engine. Staying innovative and strategic in the market is instrumental to the Port’s success, and Karen has led the entry into new markets including China, India and Vietnam.

"Even under the best circumstances, if these three countries were holding hands and skipping through the fields, it would still be almost impossible to do it in two weeks."
