That’s a wrap for the 2022 SelectUSA Investment Summit!

Thank you to all speakers, moderators, panelists, sponsors, exhibitors, and participants whose engagement has made the 2022 SelectUSA Investment Summit a resounding success!  This was our largest Investment Summit to date, with record levels of participation from over 3,600 attendees from 70+ international markets and 51 states and territories, all gathering to take advantage of in-person networking and informative programming on key industry topics affecting the FDI community.

Participants also heard from Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Veneeth Iyengar, Louisiana’s first Executive Director for Broadband Development and Connectivity, on the subject of broadband infrastructure and increasing digital access and inclusion. This panel shared their short- and long-term vision for broadband infrastructure investments and the role the private sector can play.

In her closing remarks, Secretary Gina M. Raimondo thanked participants for making this the largest Investment Summit to date, confirming the confidence both investors and those interested in expanding to the U.S. have in this market.  She remarked that navigating U.S. investment together has only brought our global community closer, with each industry directly impacting the success of other industries.

Select Global Women in Tech (SGWIT) Mentorship Network

The 2022 SelectUSA Investment Summit saw the second iteration of the Select Global Women in Tech (SGWIT) Mentorship Network! The importance of providing better job training, apprenticeships, and mentorships was a large part of several plenary session discussions at this year’s Investment Summit, with Secretary Raimondo highlighting apprenticeships and mentorships in her armchair discussion on “Building America’s Future.” SGWIT is a platform designed to support mentorship and learning with mentees being matched with mentors based on their goals, respective industries, and expertise. Mentors have been selected across the U.S. startup ecosystem based on their interest in supporting female-run businesses. Secretary Raimondo met with SGWIT participants on Tuesday to celebrate their dedication to leveling the playing field for women in industries that are traditionally male dominated!

U.S. Biden Administration Participation

SelectUSA is grateful for the participation of President Biden, Secretaries Blinken, Granholm, Walsh, and Vilsack, NEC Director Brian Deese, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai for speaking at the 2022 Investment Summit, reinforcing that the United States is the #1 destination for FDI!

Investment Announcements

Three major announcements were made at this year’s Investment Summit! MediaTek, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fabless semiconductors announced a major investment in Indiana. Their new collaboration with Purdue University will develop the workforce in the semiconductor industry, targeting new engineering talent. 

GlobalWafers of Taiwan is bringing the production of raw silicon wafers to American soil, building the largest facility of its kind in Sherman, Texas, creating 1,000 new jobs closing a critical gap in the semi-conductor supply chain shortage.

And Forsee Power, a French smart battery system manufacturer, announced their plans to establish a gigafactory in Ohio, expected to create 150 jobs in the Columbus.
